The history of Cifonelli begins in 1880, when great-grandfather Giuseppe Cifonelli opened the very first workshop in Rome. At that time, the streets of Rome were crowded with men dressed in elegant tailor-made suits. Since then, the tradition has been passed down from father to son to dress the greatest with the most beautiful fabrics.
Camp de Luca: tradition modernized
This house was born in 1969 from the association of two great figures in the world of men’s tailor-made suits at the time, Joseph Camps and Mario de Luca. In the space of a few years, the association between the two tailors would impose its style and seduce the greatest heads of state and the most famous entrepreneurs. The company is now managed by Mario’s son: Marc de Luca, assisted by his sons Charles de Luca and Julien de Luca.

However, it is in the world of men’s tailor-made suits that Francesco Smalto, a Calabrian who decided to settle in France, was able to create one of the biggest names in the world of men’s tailor-made suits. Through hard work and sketches, Francesco Smalto managed to truly revolutionize the classic ‘French’ cut thanks to a touch of calculated insouciance and freedom typical of Italian suits.
Thanks to his hard work and his reputation that grew rapidly under the strokes of genius inspiration, Smalto would quickly end up dressing the greatest people in this world in the 1970s and 1980s.
