Montpellier is a city in the south of France, 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea. Its city center is full of typical small streets, pleasant restaurants and monuments to visit. If you are passing through this part of Languedoc-Roussillon, do not hesitate to stop for a few days in this city which smells of sun and holidays. Here is my selection of the 4 luxury hotels to favor in order to be able to visit the city center and be able to walk through the streets on foot.
1/ Hotel Richer de Belleval, direct access to the historic epicenter of Montpellier
Ideally located in the heart of Ecusson (the historic city center of Montpellier), this hotel will allow you to access on foot in just a few minutes the main historic places of the city such as the Arc de Triomphe, Place du Peyrou, Place de la Comédie…
In addition, this hotel is a member of the Relais & Châteaux network which is a very high quality network extremely popular with the French. Indeed, the Relai & Chateau network guarantees an exceptional level of quality (as well as local character) for the hotel as well as for its restaurant.
It is a five-star hotel in a listed historic building from the 17th century.
A true art gallery, the hotel is punctuated with modern works as evidenced by the multicolored hearts under the entrance arch…
Its restaurant is probably the best in the region and will satisfy your taste buds.
The only downside is that with only 15 rooms and 5 suites, availability is rare if you don’t book in advance.
Finally, it should be noted that it is located in a pedestrian area. Therefore, if you want to go there by car, you will need to park in the nearby paid parking lots. The most practical parking lot is probably the Foch Prefecture guarded parking lot located 100 meters from the hotel. You can go there yourself or leave your car at the hotel’s valet service, which will allow you to not have to carry your luggage.
2/ Hotel Pullman La Pléiade Montpellier Centre, a safe and well located choice
This typical Pullman network hotel (Hotel Accor) is located between Place de la Comédie and the Polygone shopping center. This hotel will give you direct access (as soon as you leave the hotel) to the historic pedestrian and shopping center of the city.
You can access this hotel directly via the car park located under the hotel (you can access it via the road which passes under the Place de la Comédie).
This hotel offers a range of high-end services for business or leisure trips.
So you can benefit from a swimming pool (from May to September) and a panoramic restaurant, both located on the rooftop.
Recently, it also has a real spa with indoor swimming pool (access to the spa authorized for children under 16 years old from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. only).
In short, a safe choice and a superb location but a little less typical than the Hotel Richer de Belleval.
3/ Crowne Plaza Montpellier – Corum, the best choice if you want to access the Corum de Montpellier or visit the Fabre museum
This hotel benefits from a range of quality services with parking, swimming pool, restaurant and fitness room (which can help you out a little if you want to run on the treadmill or do some abs).
This hotel is located close to the two hotels mentioned above but slightly out of the center. As a result, you will need to walk approximately 5 minutes to reach the Place de la Comédie on foot.
However, this hotel will be easily accessible by car and will benefit from the best possible location if you wish to attend a concert (or other) at the Corum in Montpellier or visit the Fabre museum. In fact, a small pedestrian bridge located almost in front of the hotel will allow you to access it directly.
4/ Courtyard by Marriott Montpellier, at the heart of the new city center of Montpellier
This hotel from the Marriott chain is THE best choice if you want to access the new city center of Montpellier.
Backed by the new town hall of Montpellier, this hotel will give you direct access to the basin and the Port Marianne district.
New center of activity with bars, restaurants, this vibrant district will seduce you with an atmosphere totally different from the 3 other hotels.
It should be noted that this hotel offers a beautiful swimming pool, a restaurant and above all a 70 square meter fitness room with some weights and fitness equipment in addition to the standard bikes and treadmills that are found everywhere.
Finally, it should be noted that this hotel will allow you direct access to take a walk along the banks of the Lez. For the more courageous (I still recommend taking a bike) you can go to the Mediterranean Sea (in Palavas les Flots).
